How I work

The operating principles.

Five things that are true about how I approach the work — before the first call, during the engagement, and in the readout.

01

Finds a Way

“Constraints are information, not conclusions.”

The answer exists. If the first path doesn't work, find another one. Dead ends are data — they tell you which direction still has ground to walk on.

02

Independent Thinking

“Consensus isn't analysis.”

I form my own read before I hear anyone else's. The value of independent judgment is that it fails independently — it doesn't drag everyone else down with it.

03

No Spin

“The readout says what the data says.”

Including things that are inconvenient. If your numbers are clean, I tell you. If they're not, I tell you that too. A comfortable answer that isn't true isn't worth anything.

04

Stewardship Over Self

“I'm a steward of the work, not the decision.”

Your systems, your numbers, your call. My job is to put the clearest picture in front of you, then get out of the way. The point is never to make myself necessary.

05

Fails with Excitement

“Wrong turns are how you find where the real answer is.”

A finding that proves a hypothesis wrong is still a finding. The hypothesis that breaks tells you more than the one that holds. That's worth being interested in.
